Oceania
My working experience in Oceania, Guam to be more precise, was short, interesting and also a bit surreal.
It was short since it was actually a secondment from my duties in Singapore. I was deciding on the new ERP system to be implemented in Singapore and was for that reason asked to investigate a similar situation for our subsidiary on Guam.
It was interesting, as I soon understood that the exigencies of Guam were in no way similar to the Singapore situation, however I believed that I could personally write a module to add to their existing system that would solve their particular predicament: calculate the shortest route and plan the loading of the refrigerated truck based on the orders received for that day. Guam, not exactly being a metropolis, could easily be charted and options were limited. The actual job took me some 2 months.
It was surreal, since, although I was more than used to live in out-of-the-way places, this was different: a tropical island where television, radio (both taped) & newspaper were shipped per boat from the USA, taking 7 days. The world could perish so to speak, we would find out one week later.
